Suzanne Magee, an experienced entrepreneur, recognized a growing need for security and privacy of computer communications in light of the federal government going paperless, and enterprises racing to have a presence on the ubiquitous Internet. The benefits of the Internet were embraced by organizations with no thought of the vulnerabilities created by unprotected electronic access. From a small basement office, Suzanne and Andrea Johnson founded TechGuard Security, LLC in early 2000 in response to Presidential Decision Directive 63 to secure the US Critical Infrastructure.
The mission was to create proactive countermeasures to malicious network attacks through deployment of industry-leading services; and provide cutting-edge research and development of pro-active security technology products. As opposed to security remaining a game of catch-up, this approach would stay one step ahead of the hackers and the growing number of network threats.
Recognized Computer Engineering expert, Dave Maestas, joined the founders in the first years of the company’s operation, and under his leadership, TechGuard deployed the firewall platform to guard their own company network. That was only the beginning of the realization of TechGuard’s vision what has grown to be the Great Walls of Fire® product suite of managed firewalls, spam filters, intrusion detection systems.
Dave and Brian Cooper invented a faster way to process large Internet Protocol (IP) packets for granular network access control without impact to network performance and TechGuard’s patent-pending HIPPIE® (High-speed Internet Protocol Packet Inspection Engine) technology was born. TechGuard launched the revolutionary and fully interoperable PoliWall® with the HIPPIE filter appliance, to operate in conjunction with the network firewall--the PoliWall as the first line of defense.
